Using your eSIM in Iceland
Mobile data in Iceland
From the Keflavík transfer to a night in Vík, an Iceland eSIM keeps bookings, weather checks and directions on your phone between stops. Downloaded maps and saved reservations still matter on a road trip, since coverage thins away from towns.

Check the network for your plan.
Networks vary by plan. Reception and speeds depend on location, network conditions and your device.
Keep moving between stops.Reykjavík, Iceland
Reykjavík: confirm the transfer's destination.
Keflavík Airport sits outside Reykjavík. The airport's transport page lists Flybus to BSÍ Bus Terminal, Strætó public buses, taxis and rental cars. Confirm which transfer you booked and where it stops before leaving arrivals.
If your ticket adds an onward hotel connection, keep those instructions with the voucher. Save the final walk or pickup point apart from the airport leg, then message your host an arrival estimate while you have signal.
In town, maps and messaging burn less data than repeated video uploads or streaming YouTube. Save a full camera backup for Wi-Fi if one allowance must last the rest of your trip.
Save before you goYour transfer voucher, onward stop, accommodation entry details and the return instructions to Keflavík.
South Coast: verify road conditions before departure.
For the drive toward Vík, check road conditions and weather before leaving. Visit Iceland points drivers to the official weather service and SafeTravel, since a saved itinerary won't show a fresh closure.
Keep the next address and any activity meeting point offline. Send a revised arrival estimate while connected if your day shifts, and pull the booking before you reach a remote stop.
Your data allowance can cover these checks, but reception still depends on where you are. Download maps on Wi-Fi and treat fresh online information, not an offline map, as your conditions report.
Save before you goThe next night's address, activity instructions and a downloaded road map. Recheck live conditions before driving.
Ring Road: plan the next section from town.
Route 1 loops a longer circuit around Iceland. Weather can close sections at short notice, so check the next leg rather than assuming yesterday's conditions still apply.
Before leaving your accommodation, download directions and confirm the next check-in. Keep rental details and reservations offline; sharing data with a passenger's tablet or a laptop spends the same allowance.
For a highland detour, confirm current access and your rental vehicle's suitability with the rental company and official sources. A navigation app showing a route is not proof the road is open or passable.
Save before you goSave the next leg, check-in details and rental contact offline. Use Wi-Fi for entertainment downloads to preserve travel data.
